Rietumu banka in cooperation with TechHub Riga is announcing the establishment of Rietumu Fintech Club, a meeting place for professionals, investors and founders to discuss the opportunities and challenges in the field of financial technology in the Baltics. The first meeting will take place on Thursday, February 25th bringing together all the main players in finance and technology.
Financial technology is widely regarded as one of the most promising startup industries, aiming to reshape the banking sector and offer new and innovative financial services with digital solutions. The field is growing rapidly, especially in the Baltics, which has historically branded itself as a geographical hub of financial services. Fintech startups are especially popular in Latvia, where several of the most promising companies cover the field.
Rietumu FinTech Club will hold regular meetings throughout the year, and become an active platform for successful startups leaders and fintech specialists to exchange knowledge and experience with representatives of the most innovative Latvian and Baltic companies.
The speakers at the Rietumu FinTech Club launch meeting will be the senior vice-presidents of the bank Renats Lokomets (lending and investments) and Jevgēņijs Djugajevs (IT and business technology), as well as Marks Andrejevs, Member of the Board at DECTA processing centre, Jevgēņijs Kazaņins, the CEO of fintech startup Twino and Uldis Pabērzis, Member of the Board at Mobilly. The topic of discussion for the panel will be the Baltics' opportunity to become a hotspot for the new development of fintech projects. The panel discussion will be moderated by Māris Daģis from Sellfy.
“Development of fintech is one of the most important topics. Latvia still has the opportunity to take a leading position on the European fintech market, on the condition that the country and public authorities will take practical steps towards the young entrepreneurs, improving the startup ecosystem,” said Renats Lokomets, member of the board at Rietumu Bank.
Rietumu FinTech Club is a part of long term cooperation between Rietumu Bank and the biggest Latvian IT and startup community TechHub RigaTechHub Riga, started last year. In April, startup competition Rietumu Fintech Challenge 2016 by TechHub Academy will invite teams from the Baltics, Scandinavia and other European countries for mentorship and a competition for valuable prizes.
